On an episode of “Insight With Chris Van Vliet”, WWE star Dominik Mysterio opened up about his debut match against Seth Rollins, his interactions with notable figures like CM Punk and John Cena, and much more.
Moreover, the wrestler affectionately known as “Dirty Dom” provided some insight into his wife’s reaction to his ongoing narrative arc involving Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley.
Below are some standout moments from the podcast:
On his debut match with Seth Rollins: “It was certainly different. I’m incredibly grateful for these opportunities as they don’t come around too often. I clearly remember my father doubting my readiness. I’m not sure whether he hadn’t seen me in the arena or what it was, but I was certain that I wouldn’t get another opportunity like this. So, I immediately took it. I was self-aware and confident in my abilities, plus, I’m a good listener. Hence, I knew I could measure up to one of the best in the game.”
Regarding the absence of spectators for his debut match: “I wouldn’t say it was challenging as it was all I knew at the time. I wasn’t involved in the indys during my training period, be it at Lance’s or at home; there was no audience, just fellow students. My last experience with a crowd was back when I was eight and was paired with Eddie. Furthermore, I was 11 when I worked with CM Punk. Therefore, the lack of audience wasn’t something new for me.”
Reflecting on being CM Punk’s comeback competition: “Indeed, quite surreal. I didn’t anticipate that I’d be chosen given the pool of amazing talent we currently have in WWE, across both Raw and SmackDown. However, I am proud that they trusted me for his first match after a tenth-year hiatus. I’m pleased I got to throw his first punch in a decade.”
Discussing the significance of the match: “The match was special to me because it exhibited the company’s trust in my abilities. The realization dawned upon me when they asked me in a private conversation how I’d feel about facing CM Punk during the live event tour. I was psyched and ready for it as it was yet another challenge and opportunity for me. I was thrilled about checking another milestone off my list.”
On receiving boos from the audience: “There are times when I’ve simply surrendered on the promos because speaking becomes impossible with the incessant heckling. So, I’ve learned to move on and let Finn, JD or Liv handle the talking, seeing as I can’t get a word in edgewise.“
On his past and potential future with John Cena: “I managed to wrestle him once in a dark SmackDown match. But I’d relish another opportunity to grapple with Cena. I feel like there’s some unfinished business to revisit.”
On teaming up with Cena: “The best way I can describe it is ‘surreal’. I idolized him as a kid and even owned a signed copy of his album. When Cena came back the first time to challenge Roman, I joined him for the journey, participating in all the live events. For me to be in that match, let alone those leading up to SummerSlam, was extraordinary. Getting to share the ring with some of the biggest names and my father was a blessing. Cena’s advice and perspective were invaluable. I particularly look forward to another interaction in the ring with him.”
On his wife’s perspective of his bustling career: “She’s surprisingly unfazed by it all. We’ve been together since our early teen years and she’s my anchor. She’s always supportive and never raises any ruckus about my career. Much like that time Rhea licked me or the infamous Liv kiss. I usually text her after all my matches to let her know I am safe. Her response was nonchalant – she simply told me about a tarantula she found in our garage! Her unwavering support makes me feel truly blessed.”
