Dominik And Rey Mysterio explain their absence from WWE TV in December and reveal they both tested positive for COVID-19.

The father and son duo were on this week’s episode of the Start Today Podcast, and host Chris Cavallini explained that they were supposed to record this show in December, but it had to be put on hold due to the Mysterios testing positive for COVID-19. Rey Mysterio confirmed that he found out he tested positive on his birthday (December 11), then later explained how they got the virus and what the experience was like.

“It has been so confusing for me and my family, and we’ve tried to really understand how this works because it changes every time. My parents ended up catching COVID and we were taking care of them, making sure they didn’t catch it, but somehow they caught it and brought it to my house, passed it on to my housekeeper, my housekeeper then passed it onto my wife,” Mysterio explained. “I was with my wife for maybe three days, I flew out to Tampa to do SmackDown and I found out that Friday morning before I walked into the arena that my housekeeper had tested positive, so I then brought it to [WWE’s] attention. I said I don’t want to be the guy—and we [Dominik and Rey] both tested negative the night before, and my daughter flew in earlier and tested negative—so keep in mind that my daughter, Dominik and myself were around my housekeeper and my wife. My wife tested negative, my housekeeper tested positive.”

Rey said they learned about the positive test on his birthday while they were preparing for that night’s SmackDown tapings, but did not enter the building and flew home the following day. He noted again that they had tested negative, but Saturday night began feeling symptoms that included a massive headache. Rey said that he woke up on Sunday and just “knew” he had it, and said that he and his wife self-isolated and wanted to try and prevent their kids from getting it. Dominik said he was sick Tuesday night and still tested positive on Thursday, but Aalyah was still testing negative despite everyone else’s results.

Rey explained their respective symptoms and said he was dealing with migraine headaches and bad body aches for a few days. He also said it was like a really bad flu and felt like he wanted to sleep a lot, but he was still eating and one day he finally woke up one morning and “felt like a fucking king.” Dominik says he was experiencing chills and night sweats along with the head and body aches Rey was experiencing, but eventually woke up and felt pretty good.

Both Mysterios say they are feeling really good now, but the positive test would explain the Mysterios’ absence from SmackDown in December. Rey was on the December 4 show and did not return until January 8, and Dominik didn’t compete from November 22, 2020, until January 22 against Baron Corbin, the latter of which is also the day the podcast was recorded. Both competed in the Royal Rumble match on Sunday.
