In a recent appearance with Comedy Store Wrestling, WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler shared a few personal anecdotes from his career when asked about retirement matches.
Ziggler revealed that Kurt Angle’s accomplishments in the professional wrestling industry paved the way for his career in the business, and “The Show Stopper” wished to be the one to retire Angle at WrestleMania 35. He said,
“That Kurt match, they didn’t tell us who was going to do it until a couple of weeks out and I was like, ‘Man, are they finally going to give me a singles match at WrestleMania and I get to be in the ring with my hero Kurt Angle.’ The reason I have a job in wrestling because I came in at 5’11” 180 pounds is because Kurt Angle was doing so well that they gave me a shot. He was so good that I got a tryout. I was like, ‘I finally get a Mania match, finally get a one-on-one, it’s my hero.’ I don’t even care if I win or lose, retirement that’s cool. I was very jealous of that.”
