Does Punk vs. Rollins vs. Reigns Deserve A WrestleMania Main Event? | Question Of The Day

Here’s another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day for you!

Friday Night SmackDown confirmed that the Triple Threat match featuring CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins has snagged the spotlight for the main event at WrestleMania 41’s Saturday night segment.

Today’s question for you is “Do you agree that this event deserves the prime spot over the three other world title matches and additional attractions on the show?”

Don’t forget to share your view in the comments below.

Throwing in my two cents…

Although I appreciate the point of view that emphasizes star power and past WrestleManias with non-title main events, I still stubbornly believe this isn’t completely the correct decision.

I’d bet that for all these years, CM Punk has been dreaming of being the star of the WrestleMania show either defending a world title or vying for it. Instead, we see his past storyline with Seth Rollins being revisited while Roman Reigns is added to the mix because The Rock doesn’t want to wrestle. This results in a non-title feud with no stakes.

Yes, there were main events like Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice with a terrible ending, and Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker even after the streak had ended. However, repeating past errors doesn’t justify continuing to make them – a real-life lesson as well.

I’m not arguing that the Jey Uso vs. Gunther feud is superior to the Punk/Rollins/Reigns dynamic. Yet, undermining one story doesn’t mean the title itself shouldn’t matter, and it certainly doesn’t mean the two women’s titles should be disregarded.

My response to this is not “the Triple Threat is the correct decision” but rather “WWE should be striving to improve these other stories so that fans debate over which is deserving of the main event spot.”

My contention with this main event choice is that it doesn’t add up to anything substantial. If any of these three emerge victorious, they don’t settle any scores or achieve any meaningful objectives.

It would carry more weight if the winner gets to face either Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Jey Uso, or Gunther at Backlash. However, it still seems an unusual choice for the headline of the first WrestleMania night.

Undoubtedly, the match will be engaging, and being a fan of all three wrestlers, I am not completely negative. I just wish the event had been better organized, and the storylines aligned more seamlessly. I have the impression that plans were altered late in 2024 or early in 2025, leaving WWE scrambling. A whole year of planning should prevent such issues unless unforeseen circumstances like injuries occurred.
