Another day, another opportunity to ponder on eWrestlingNews’ Question of the Day!
This Saturday night is the keenly anticipated WWE Bad Blood, with one of the highlight matches being CM Punk and Drew McIntyre going toe-to-toe inside Hell in a Cell, likely drawing their ongoing story to a close. Given the event is aptly named Bad Blood, and the deep-seated rivalry between the two, is it essential that both wrestlers end up displaying a crimson mask?
The question we’re putting forward today is “Do the fans expect and hope for bloodshed in the match, even if the fight itself is top-notch? Must there be blood for this match to be appropriately sold to the spectators?”

My two cents on the topic…
Situations like this often tend to be subjected to perspective, and responses might differ. However, I believe that although it wouldn’t be completely necessary for there to be blood, it is crucial that the match itself is gripping and impressive enough to compensate for the lack of bloodshed. In other words, if the fight isn’t captivating enough, it doesn’t matter whether they bleed or not.
However, if the fight itself is a praiseworthy spectacle, the addition of blood could potentially elevate it to an unforgettable showdown. In my view, given the duo has been involved in this feud for a considerable amount of time, a final, climactic showdown with everything on the line would be fitting. While I’m not suggesting they risk their well-being for the sake of entertainment, the possibility of the sight of blood can’t be ruled out completely.
In my opinion, it would make sense for Punk to take the win from this bout in order to set up a title shot with Gunther down the line. However, McIntyre shouldn’t be left to fight mediocre battles on Raw. He should indeed be part of a captivating and compelling storyline, such as a rivalry with Ilja Dragunov where McIntyre would likely dominate.
I believe that this match needs to go beyond mere spectacle. I want to see both wrestlers pour their heart and soul into this fight. They shouldn’t hold anything back. While there could indeed be a scenario where both aren’t bleeding excessively, I feel this match needs to be a spectacle that puts a defining end to their feud.
I wouldn’t want to see it just end with light taps on the cage walls or kendo sticks being involved before the GTS finish. Ideally, I’d want a match that could compete with iconic moments like the Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels or the Undertaker vs Mick Foley matches. Hell in a Cell is not just another match type, and anything short of truly memorable would be a disappointment for fans like me.
Does there need to be blood? Not necessary, but a good match will usually make fans forget about it. Does blood make it more memorable? I believe so.
