Welcome to the latest edition of eWrestlingNews’ Question of the Day series!
In the most recent episode of Raw, John Cena expressed that among all the experiments he has done with WWE Universe, introducing the spinner belt and transforming the title into a plaything was his best idea. Despite a considerable number of people reacting negatively, it seems the product still sold well enough for it to stick around for as long as it did. This is now being utilized as a plot element in the scenario of Cena reclaiming the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Our question for you today is this: Did the spinner belt appeal to you, did you despise it, or were you impartial to it?

Here’s my take on it:
I absolutely loathed it then and I still detest it now. However, I must point out there’s an exception to my opinion, which I’ll discuss later on.
If you’re not familiar with my personal fandom journey, I can’t recall exactly when I first discovered WWE. But by age five, I was already a fan, enough to dress up as Hulk Hogan for Halloween around ’92. I grew up watching the New Generation era on VHS tapes from the ’80s and early ’90s, and eventually, stopped tuning in around 1999 returning around 2006.
During this time, the then-WWF Championship was the Winged Eagle title, followed by the Big Eagle belt which I didn’t like as much. By the time I returned, John Cena was already a year into his championship reign. I had to readjust to multiple new developments like the change from WWF to WWE, a more prominent women’s division, and the absence (or diminished roles) of some of my favorite wrestlers among other things.
And then, there was the spinning belt; it looked like a knock-off Pokemon card. I despised its shape, the spinning gimmick, the designation of “champ,” and its tacky overall appearance. However, I might have been more accepting of it if it was a gimmick like the 24/7 Championship.
Thus, I appreciate the current storyline, where heel John Cena threatens to redo things that were unpopular during his babyface years, as it deviates from the usual heel narrative. As much as I admire Cody Rhodes, I’d be just as interested in Cena winning the title for the 17th time, without the spinner belt of course!
