Reflecting on his wrestling career, Diamond Dallas Page expressed mixed feelings about having adopted the stalker persona in WWE, calling it both the best and worst choice he ever made.

To refresh your memory, DDP unveiled himself as the person obsessively following Sara, The Undertaker’s wife at the time, after he joined WWE.

In a conversation on the ‘Inside The Ropes’ podcast, the iconic pro wrestler provided a retrospective glimpse into the background of the storyline being proposed to him.

Here are some interesting moments from the podcast:

Concerning the story pitch: “Kimberly and I were with Shane McMahon when they presented this obsessive fan narrative. Looking at Kimberly, I couldn’t help but think: am I really going to obsessively follow another woman? Regardless, I attempted to be diplomatic, expressing doubts about the storyline for my alter ego. I told them I could understand if my objective was to bring out the best in Undertaker… and so forth. The story continued to take shape, and they were genuinely confident it would be a hit.”

On accepting the role: “Looking back, it was the most regretful yet important decision in my life. Instead of speaking my mind, I remained silent. What I should have said was: ‘It’s a brilliant idea, just not for me. If there’s a chance for a People’s Champion versus People’s Champion storyline, then I’m your guy.’ Should I have walked out and rejected the pitch, they would have called me right back. So why do I consider it the best decision? Because it made me a shrewd businessman.”
