AEW’s Dax Harwood put his body on the line throughout the extremely first Blood and Guts match, however acknowledges that the surface of the match ‘‘ drawn
.’ After being held off for over a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, AEW held its very first Blood and Guts match in May 2021, which saw the Pinnacle beat the Inner Circle.
Harwood was on the Pinnacle’s group for the match and saw first-hand the questionable surface, in which Chris Jericho was shaken off the cage structure and arrived on crash mats, camouflaged as steel grating.
Reviewing the match on his FTR podcast, Dax confessed that the ending of the match did “type of suck.” He stated:
” Yeah, that end up the ending how it decreased, did sort of suck. It wasn’t the fault of any of the entertainers. I simply believe that, once again, this was throughout the pandemic age, so we were all working without an internet on how to shoot things. Daily’s Place type of made it a little hard to shoot. That’s the cards we were dealt. Blood and Guts match ever in AEW. And once again, like I stated, dealing with live television without an internet.
” So the method it was shot is the factor that the fans soured on it. And once again, I do not blame the cameraman or the directors, the manufacturers, no one understood. It was simply those are the cards that we were dealt. When I state that, it was the method it was shot. I do not indicate that in a bad method. I simply suggest that we were all still in the procedure of discovering how to handle this pandemic-era design of wrestling.
” I believed the concept for the surface was fantastic. I believed that the execution entering into it was succeeded. It’s simply the method it was shot most likely might have been analyzed a bit more thinking about the little boundaries of the Daily’s Place.”
Discussing the vital action from fans, Harwood declared those who stated the area looked too phony would have declared AEW was not taking care of its wrestlers if the area looked too harmful.
