In a bid to differentiate the two dominant wrestling promotions, WWE and AEW, Darby Allin proposed a music-themed analogy. His comparison took center stage inside a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast.
Allin stated, “If individuals aim to contrast the two firms, WWE and AEW, I prefer to use a musical parallel. WWE is analogous to Taylor Swift while AEW resembles Slayer. Taylor Swift might outdo in record sales, yet that doesn’t imply Slayer has no substantial fanbase.
“Our musical genre is slightly more intense and violent, and we don’t have to alter anything. There’s no need for us to emulate the record sales of Taylor Swift. We’re rather secluded in our own realm. These are the similarities I like to discern between the two. Sure, watching All Out may offend some, but offending people is my calling.”
Tonight’s AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite will feature Allin, where he is staking his World Championship opportunity against Jon Moxley.
Earlier in the year at AEW Royal Rampage, Allin earned a shot at the title. Either Moxley or he will get to compete against Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream the coming month.
Last month, there were speculations about discussions within AEW regarding Allin superseding Danielson at Grand Slam, a plan that now appears to be discarded.
