AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin recently spoke with Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes and reflected on his run with the company. He also discussed his thoughts on potentially holding an open challenge for his championship. Here are some highlights:
On why he doesn’t want to hold an open challenge:
Allin: “I want more people in the company to step up and actually have long-term feuds with me and not just open challenges. Personally, I want to have long-term feuds with people that have earned it, just like I’ve earned it. I don’t want people to walk out there just randomly and get shots. I’ve put a lot work into this and I want people to do the same.”
On revisiting his feud with Ricky Starks:
Allin: “Ricky and me are a lot alike. He’s hungry, he’s got, on the independent scene, he got the s— end of the stick, just like I kinda did, and we were never main eventers, we were never doing that. But now we are on national television, and that’s all that matters. And I would love to step in the ring with him again and have him step up for the TNT Championship this time.”
On the significance of his video promos:
Allin: “Those promos are just as important to me as the in-ring stuff. Without that, I’m not gonna sit on my a– and expect people to just know who I am. I gotta show them it. I don’t just say it with my words, I mean it.”
“And I show them every week with videos, so that’s why those videos mean so much to me, so I can show the world that I can take an a—kicking. Because if I kick my own a–, what makes you think that I can’t take someone else’s a—kicking?”
