Darby Allin doesn’t fly to look pretty and you better believe he’ll be doing that in the Casino Ladder Match at AEW Double Or Nothing. Being the first competitor to be announced for the bout over the weekend, Allin is all about exacting pain in All Elite Wrestling. In an exclusive interview with Dominic DeAngelo of WrestleZone Darby gives the details of how he came to blend that brawler and technical style into a moveset that’s all about leaving his opponent down for the 1-2-3.

“When I first started training I tried to do a lot of high-flying like Lucha Libre stuff. Like for me, as a human I never wanted my art to look fancy if that’s the word. I didn’t want to make it look like we were out there dancing with each other. I don’t fly to look pretty, I fly to hurt and so that’s essentially what that whole thing came from, and yeah, so I love to just be in there and be scrappy and stuff so…”

Have that mindset is what led to his invention of his signature Coffin Drop finisher.

“Well, like I said, it goes back to saying, I fly to hurt and not look pretty. I don’t need to do four rotations in the air, I just need to fall backwards and smash somebody and that’s pretty much I think to get out there and show people you don’t have to look at me as the way like, ‘Oh, we’re just gonna wait for him do his like three rotations or four rotations or whatever.’ It’s just getting out there and just falling backwards and it’s not pretty but it gets the job done.”
