Damian Priest is one of wrestling’s top rising stars, but that doesn’t make his fandom for his profession any easier to shake.

“The Archer of Infamy” spoke with Robert Pasbani of Metal Injection of trying to find that balance of “colleague” and “fan” when he gets to interact with legends such as Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

“There’s so many times that they’re speaking to me and I’ll be like, ‘Wait, can you repeat that? I wasn’t paying attention because I was just mesmerized by the fact that you’re talking to me.'”

“I’m so grateful that that fan side is still there and I haven’t lost it. Just because it is by far the coolest part of the gig. People talk about fame and fortune and all that stuff. I’m like, no. The relationships that I made here, the people I work with and the brains I get to pick, it’s definitely the coolest part of my job. Every time I get to be around them. The other day I stopped by NXT and Shawn saw me and he came up and gave me a hug and I almost cried. I was like, Shawn Michaels is hugging me. It’s the Boy Toy,’ you know what I mean? It doesn’t get old, man. It’s so cool. Yes, it’s a struggle every time I speak to him.

Priest tends to get “limitlessly” razzed by his buddies for his tendency to bumble around legends.

“Scott Hall, he came in one time and I had to meet them and Keith Lee and I are buddies so he would just be around just so he could roast me by my reactions, where I slur my words and I can’t even speak and I’m tripping over stuff and he just sits there and just laughs at me and just makes fun of me to everybody else later. That’s what friends are for (laughs).”
