In a recent conversation with Justin Barrasso from Sports Illustrated, Damian Priest expressed that his hunger for success has only increased after losing the WWE World Heavyweight Title to GUNTHER in WWE SummerSlam 2024.
Check out below for some of the key takeaways from the discussion:
Reflecting on his WWE SummerSlam 2024 defeat: “The loss was inevitable. Holding this belt assures one thing – that you’ll lose it eventually. Yet, the focus remains on our achievements. Being the global champion walking into SummerSlam was quite the experience. It’s important to temporarily set aside the back-and-forth with GUNTHER and consider that we’re not among the typical front-runners. We might appear as compelling characters on screen, but we’re neither Seth Rollins nor Punk, and certainly not Drew or Roman. We’re not pre-fixed faces like AJ, Randy, or Finn. The fact that GUNTHER and I were the ones in such a high-stakes world title fight was momentous. The most rewarding aspect was the reaction from my colleagues, who saw our match as a sign that ‘one of us made it.'”
Regarding his future plans: “Despite my accomplishments, there’s still a lot I want to achieve. My initial dreams were to perform at WrestleMania and clinch a world title. Now, my ambitions have evolved, and I’m more determined than ever.”
