Damian Priest shook everyone by surprising victory and clinching the World Heavyweight Title, through means that many found contentious. However, Booker T firmly believes that the Archer of Infamy truly deserves his championship reign.
Despite the controversy, Priest clinched the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. He did this by outsmarting Drew McIntyre and cashing in his Money in the Bank contract.
This unconventional winning strategy has ignited McIntyre’s resentment who has challenged Priest’s legitimacy, referring to the latter as a ‘Paper Champion’.
Speaking on his popular “Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T unraveled his stance on why Priest rightfully holds the World Champion title. He expressed,
“Damian Priest wasn’t initially crowned as the potential WWE World Heavyweight Champion. But ever since joining Judgment Day, his growth has been phenomenal. He’s proven his caliber by being consistent. He goes out there and performs at the apex level every single night. That’s exactly what the business expects from a champion.”
Booker T also compared Priest’s relentless drive to the renowned work ethic of John Cena. He further added,
“Damian Priest has worked hard to get where he is today. I knew he would eventually triumph.”
On June 15, Damian Priest is set to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship title from Drew McIntyre at the WWE event, ‘Clash At The Castle: Scotland’.
