Scott Hall is one of the smartest minds in the wrestling business and Damian Priest was more than happy to sit under “The Bad Guy’s” learning tree.
Priest recently spoke with Robert Pasbani of Metal Injection about he was starstruck by interacting with Hall, but was quick to seek advice from “The Lone Wolf.”
“I definitely picked his brain and I learned some stuff,” Priest said. “Like, you know when he’d come out and do that walk? I asked him, ‘Can I use that?’ And he goes, ‘The surfer walk?’ I was like, ‘It has a name?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, cause you’re climbing on the surf board.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, that makes sense!’ And then he was like, ‘You know why I did that?’ I was like, ‘No, it was cool as hell though.’ He was like, ‘Because I was “The Bad Guy” and I didn’t want anybody to touch me so I would walk like that, sideways so they couldn’t reach me.’ And I was like ‘Oh my God!’
“So I do a little modified version, I don’t do it exactly like he did it but he was like, ‘Yeah you can do that,’ and then The Razor’s Edge, the same thing, he was all good about it and then he saw he me do it and the first reaction was, ‘That’s as high as you can pick him up?’ (Laughs) He roasted me, again, in front of Keith Lee [who] (again, roasted me right after!)
“I made sure from there on out to make sure to do it exactly the way he did it. Then I did it again in another match and he came right up to me, and he’s like, ‘That was a good one.’ So that was cool.”
