WWE RAW performer Damian Priest admitted his shock and disbelief at the faith the company put in him by crowning him World Heavyweight Champion this year.
Damian Priest claimed the championship title after successfully using his Money in the Bank briefcase at the WrestleMania 40, thereby curtailing Drew McIntyre’s World Championship reign.
During an interview with Buster on Q102 Philly, Priest shared his feelings on his achievement of being a World Champion in WWE’s history books. He articulated,
“It’s unimaginable for me. Even now it feels like a dream. I find it hard to believe that it actually happened. It’s surreal, the thought that I was World Champion, and I’m etched in the records. That’s something irrevocable. I can’t express how amazed I am. Forever grateful.”
He further added, “The prospect of someone, years down the line…it’s another ‘I’ve achieved it, I’ve succeeded’ instances. Ever since I began my journey with WWE, my aspiration was ‘live forever’ as I want my legacy to endure. I think I’ve managed [laughs].”
Priest’s championship term featured him successfully defending the title against McIntyre at the WWE Clash At The Castle: Scotland due to CM Punk’s intervention. However, his reign came to an end at WWE SummerSlam 2024 when the title was claimed by GUNTHER after a sudden betrayal by Finn Balor.
Post losing his title, Priest did not participate until beating Balor at WWE Bad Blood on October 5. He has recently stated his aim of reclaiming the World Champion title.
