Dakota Kai recently spoke with Marc Churches of Wide World of Sports in Australia and reflected on her journey to WWE. Kai looked back on the difficulties she faced and how she persevered. “‘I did my try out for the WWE in 2014, I wasn’t successful initially,'” said Kai via Churches. Despite this initial setback, Kai kept working toward her goal of being a WWE superstar. However, this adversity made her doubt herself at the time.

“‘There was a window there for a time, where it wasn’t that I was unsuccessful and needed to stop, but I had been doing this for nine years, I should probably venture into something else and take a little bit more of the focus, off wrestling,'” said Kai via Churches. “‘But I never really stopped, I kept wrestling which was a good thing. Lucky I didn’t stop.'”

Kai also discussed what it’s like to learn from legends like Shawn Michaels and Triple H. “‘To have them around NXT every week, they will constantly give you feedback on your matches and the process it takes to put anything like that together, they will have a big hand in,'” said Kai via Churches.

Kai said that Triple H taught her a lesson that’s priceless in professional wrestling. “‘You can’t always be at the top,'” said Kai via Churches.

As a result, Kai said she has learned to appreciate each and every success because there’s no way to know what the future holds. “‘To appreciate the highs when they’re happening, because who knows when it will happen again,'” said Kai via Churches. “‘There could be a moment in your career where it could be a little quiet but that’s only the journey to whatever the next big opportunity is.'”
