Dakota Kai is no sidekick, but she is a streak-ender. The number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship took on the undefeated Sarray in singles action and handed “The Warrior of The Sun” her first loss on the black-and-gold brand.

Kai replaced Ember Moon after the latter was ruled out of tonight’s NXT. Kai briefly got on the mic to call out NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez before the match. Sarray played the sportswoman by offering her hand in respect before the bell, but Kai slapped it away to begin the mind games.

Sarray showed her ability to adapt against Kai, as she took over the offense in the match, but Kai eventually pulled her opponent’s hair to shift the momentum. Sarray still managed to utilize her submission skills to get back in control, and she got a near fall with a modified Northern lights suplex.

The match lasted long enough to go through a picture-in-picture break in which Sarray maintained control by nailing two German suplexes. The finish came when Kai nailed Sarray with her running boot to clinch the victory.

After the bell, Kai went to size up Sarray for another blow, but Gonzalez stopped her. Gonzalez got on the mic and told Kai straight out she’s going to tear her apart when they finally clash at NXT TakeOver 36.
