Former WWE Intercontinental Champion, Curtis Axel, has opened up about the possibility of a return to the wrestling promotion, years after participating in his last wrestling bout.
Having not competed since February 28, 2020, on WWE SmackDown, where he was defeated by Daniel Bryan, Axel hasn’t entirely dismissed the idea of a comeback at WWE.
During a recent episode of the “Going Ringside” podcast, Axel elucidated that his WWE journey may not have come full circle yet, and conversed about a role backstage. He conveyed,
“That’s something that’s still on the table. I could go back there and do that and help out. I really like coaching the next up-and-comers. It’s very rewarding to give my insight to them and have these different ideas that we can collaborate on to make the match even better. I really enjoyed that part and just being a part of the creative side. It was pretty cool.”
After a hiatus, Axel came back to WWE as a producer in April 2022. However, his tenure in this role was completed after just three months.
His solitary on-screen visit during this return was in May when he was part of a team up that broke up a fight between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
