Recently, former WWE Superstar Curtis Axel featured on the “Monte and the Pharaoh” podcast, where he didn’t hold back his feelings about his time in the NXT. He used one word to describe his NXT era – a “disaster.”

Axel is the progeny of wrestling legend Curt Hennig and he also shared his views on being given his wrestling moniker in WWE.

Here are the key takeaways from his podcast appearance:

Regarding his time in NXT, Axel expressed, “NXT, in my era, was a disaster. They would demean us, treating us poorly. It was an unfortunate period for all of us who worked hard like Bray (Wyatt), and all these guys that put their heart and soul into their work. My aim was to make it to the WWE main roster and I wanted it passionately, but they didn’t treat us well. I recall seeing Kofi Kingston on TV where he announced, ‘Here’s my pro, son of Mr. Perfect, Michael McGuility.'”

As for his reaction to his WWE ring name, Axel vented, “I was like, ‘This is unacceptable.’ I was infuriated, but I decided to play along because I have a family to support. I protested persistently and didn’t back down. I continued to perform, giving it my all. Eventually, I reached my breaking point. I declared, ‘Dude, I’m done.’ That’s when Curtis Axel came to life.”
