Former professional wrestler, William Albert Haynes, who has been accused of the murder of his wife, has been found unfit for trial according to recent court papers filed on Wednesday.
Infamously known by his ring name Billy Jack Haynes during his wrestling career, he has been ordered by Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Angela Lucero to be relocated to the Oregon State Hospital. This decision was made on the grounds that Haynes was incapable of aiding in his defense.
Haynes was taken into custody in February 2024 in connection with the death of his wife, Janette Becraft, aged 85. He is presiding under charges of second-degree murder and illicit use of a weapon.
The court documents suggest that Haynes’ sojourn at the Oregon State Hospital could last anywhere between one and three years. Haynes was a professional wrestler who began his career in 1982, facing off against well-known opponents such as Randy “Macho Man” Savage.
A further court hearing in relation to this case is planned for Tuesday, May 20.
