The Packaging

This set features the typical red and white 2020 basic style packaging with their names on the side with an image of the wrestler as well as followed by everyone in the set listed on the back.

Mia Yim

Mia is probably the most sought after in the set as it’s her very first WWE action figure. It’s received a bit of backlash over the face scan and I can agree it looks a little off. It’s not a terrible likeness but something seems off. Besides that the detail on her is really nice. From the eye shadow of her makeup to the blue in her hair to the tattoo on her back to the detail on her top. She even has a rubber belt accessory that is a nice little bonus. Then of course her pant mold with the logos on her right leg. What’s really interesting about her figure as well is the fact she has ankle articulation, which most Basics no longer have.

Overall, it’s a nice Basic. The face can be better, but honestly I think it’s the expression or it could really just be the paint apps. Many times people have painted the female figures and the likeness truly comes out. Hard to say as I’ve never done such. Besides that as I said the detail is nice. She has some new molding, like her legs, as well, which is great and the fact she has ankle joints is a huge bonus. If you like Mia and want a figure of her I recommend picking it up. I imagine the next one we’d possibly see would be her in her Retribution attire, but only time will tell.

Drew McIntyre

Drew’s figure looks like all of his other figures, literally. He has the same head sculpt most of his figure have as well as his black wrist tape, black trunks with the logos and his knee pads and black boots. His trunks at least have logos on them none of his others have had yet to my knowledge, which is a nice update.

While Drew looks nice, his figures all start to look the same after awhile as he could use a new head scan or something. I wish Mattel would change them up a bit somehow besides the logos on his trunks. If you like Drew I recommend it, but if you want something of him that stands out I’d say hold off on it.

John Cena

Another sleeper in this set is John Cena as he, too, has figures that all pretty much look the same after awhile. This Cena comes in a black shirt at least that says “You Can’t Stop Me” on it. He is sporting his latest head scan with his cheesy grin and longer hair. He has a rubber armband that says “Never Give Up” as well as his wrist bands with the logos on them. And lastly his jean shorts, knee pads and black shoes.

Overall, while it’s not a bad Cena figure at all, it’s just boring to see so many renditions of him, especially when he is no longer relevant in WWE. While these lineups were created awhile back it would just be nice to see some others who don’t have figures as often in his place. That’s my gripe with this figure otherwise it does look nice.

Buddy Murphy

Besides Mia’s figure, Buddy was my other most sought after in the set. He is sporting his Messiah attire finally, which is great to have an update of him. There is an Elite of him coming in this attire soon if you rather wait for that one, but this is a great placeholder in the meantime. The detail on Murphy is pretty nice as he has his arm/hand tape, a black elbow pad, as well as his black tights with the laces. His left leg says “The Disciple Murphy” on the side, too, which is great. Lastly he has black knee pads and black/white kickpads.

Overall, this is a great figure of Murphy. I wish they gave him a new head scan as I’d love to see another one but it still looks excellent. Maybe they can do one with his thicker beard soon. Regardless, this figure is really well done as Mattel seems to knock his out of the park. I highly recommend as his first Elite is pretty tough to come by as well. Or as I said before you can wait for his upcoming Elite I believe in this exact attire.

Edge

Lastly we have Edge, which was a surprise to me in this wave. I unfortunately didn’t get my hands on his Chase figure in time, but the Chase comes in his black/red/silver attire you can see in the gallery below. The detail on it looks pretty nice I must say.

The main release Edge comes in his purple/black attire “Rated R Superstar” attire. He looks to have new head scan as well, which I’m not the biggest fan of as it looks a little odd. For some reason they have trouble with his heads a lot I’ve noticed and I’m not sure why. It could the paint app scenario all over again. Besides that he has several tattoos, his elbow pads as well as one wrist band, which is accurate to the match this is based on. It’s weird, yet cool, to see a figure with only one wrist band like that as we are so used to everyone wearing them on both wrists. His legs feature the “Rated R” star logos on the sides with the purple star beneath as well as his super vibrant purple/black kickpads with the logos on them as well.

Overall, both Edge figures are pretty decent. I like them both, I’m just not completely sold on the heads on these. The likeness just feels a bit off like a lot of his figures do to me for whatever reason. Maybe it’s just me, but I do look forward to his upcoming Ultimate Edition based on his recent return. If you’re a fan of Edge I recommend picking these up as who knows when we will be getting more. Grab him while you can before he parts ways with WWE again!

Overall

Overall, this is a pretty decent series of Basic figures. They all look nice honestly, some are just not the most exciting like Drew and Cena, but I know budget purposes tie into a lot of that as well. Definitely pickup several in the wave if you collect Basics. Mia should be on your radar especially as who knows when we will see more figures of her, especially in that attire.
