The Packaging
This set features the latest style packaging for 2020, the red and white color scheme with the names and photos of the featured wrestlers on the front. You can see images of the others in the set on the back as well as info about the wrestlers featured in that specific 2-pack, such as what moment it’s based on.
Kevin Owens & Ali
This set features both KO and Ali based on their match at WWE Fastlane. The only accessory these two come with is Ali’s face mask, which fits snuggly over Ali’s face as you can see in the gallery below.
That being said, KO features his black and blue “Fight Anyone” attire with his white hand tape, which is a nice update to his figures. Looking at his head you can see the detail in his facial hair and fade in his hair. He’s sporting his black t-shirt with his logos, as well as his wrist tape as mentioned and his detailed tattoo work on his arms. Unfortunately he doesn’t have his tattoos on his fingers. He also has his black shorts with his logos on them as well as his knee pads and kick pads.
Ali on the other hand is a repaint of his only Basic that released in green and gray/purple attires. He has his smiling head scan as well as his wrist tape. He also is sporting his blue/black attire, which looks nice in my opinion, as well as his knee pads and kick pads with their designs. His entrance mask was a nice touch, but without his vest, too, it doesn’t really make sense.
Overall, not a bad two-pack. I like both guys so I was happy to have some updated outfits of theirs although I feel KO has been in this color scheme attire a lot. I was happy they added his white wrist tape, but I hope an Elite will have that soon, too. Ali is great although is irrelevant now since he hasn’t been on TV in ages. Still a nice figure of him though and I do like the blue attire choice.
Velveteen Dream & Ricochet
This pack is probably the gem of the set as it’s a great Ricochet Basic figure, even with his proper knee pads, and a Velveteen Dream everyone wants, but would rather have in Elite form. Why Mattel chooses to do attires and include accessories like this on a Basic is beyond me, but it looks great regardless. Dream features boas and a removable bandana, which would count as the accessories for this pack. Oddly his bandana says “Dream Over” instead of “Dream Still Over” like the image on the box shows.
Knowing Dream’s drama right now this could be the last figure we see of him for some time. That’s not factual of course, just my assumption, but this Basic is great. It is really too bad it wasn’t Elite, though. He has a new head scan with his hair braided back. His removable bandana is nice, too. The boas could’ve used some orange accent like he worse, but you can always paint it if desired. His tights are very detailed as well with the Prince Puma inspired look, which is awesome I must say. Then he has tall, white boots, which should really be short, so that isn’t accurate unfortunately.
Ricochet on the other hand is a Basic form of his Elite 69 figure. It’s the same detailed black/gold attire. He has his only head scan they’ve done for him so far, too. His tattoos are very detailed on his chest as well. And what surprised collectors most was the fact he comes with knee pads, which his Elites lack…this aggravated a lot of collectors but you can always swap these pads onto his Elite, which is what I plan on doing with mine. Lastly, his boots are detailed with his logos on them, too.
Overall, this Battle Pack is great. It has it’s minor pros and cons, but who knows if Mattel will ever make an Elite Dream like this, especially with the drama he’s dealing with right now. I recommend picking it up as it is one of the cooler packs they’ve done in awhile honestly.
The Hardy Boys
Lastly we have the last Hardy Boyz 2-pack in the Mattel line as clearly Matt Hardy is no longer with WWE. They come with a set of crutches, which is a cool accessory to have if you’ve never gotten crutches accessories in the past.
Matt features his laughing head scan with his hair drawn back and the blonde streak within it. He’s topless with black wrist and hand tape. Not to mention he has his black pants. Not the most exciting Matt Hardy figure honestly but it still looks pretty good if you’re a fan.
Jeff on the other hand is much more detailed. He still has that tank top molded torso though, which is very annoying. His head scan is detailed with his crazy sideburns/beard, his spacers in his ears and his hair slicked back. He also features his red/black armbands with the holes and you can see some of his tattoos on his hands, which is great they included that. He also features his black pants with his white, studded belt and his black/white boots.
Overall, if you like the Hardys this is a great way to get them together, especially as they’re no longer in the same companies. The crutches are a great bonus, too. The figures themselves are nothing special. The Jeff is better than the Matt but both aren’t the most exciting honestly.
Overall
Overall, this is a pretty good Battle Pack series, my favorite being Dream/Ricochet. They’re both nicely done Basic figures. The others in the set are okay, too, but nothing to write home about honestly. If you’re missing some of these guys or simply like their attires I recommend picking them up, but definitely don’t pass on the Dream set as it’s one of his best figures to date.
