On a recent episode of the podcast “Mostly Sports,” reigning WWE Champion Cody Rhodes shared his excitement and apprehensions about his forthcoming title defence against John Cena at WrestleMania 41.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Rhodes said, “This particular match is like a double-edged sword for me. I am fully engrossed, aware of the tough week to come. I am cognizant of the hurdles of the Road to WrestleMania and the last-minute demands about to follow. I understand the additional pressure that comes along, and these aren’t really pressure points as I am prepared for them.” He added, “Just the thought of my family being there fills me with joy. I’m excited that it’s in Vegas and wrestling fans get to experience the city, but there’s also a certain melancholy. John Cena was, at one point in my life, my mentor for two years from whom I learned everything possible. Though my journey has been different than what John might have predicted, now I need to replicate what he did during his ‘Super Cena’ tenure, which is only victory.”

He further elaborated, “Despite John Cena’s recent animosity towards many, and even some low-blows at me, there’s still an exhilarating possibility that he could surpass Ric Flair’s record, by winning his seventeenth WWE Title, and here I am, the one who could hinder that from happening. This is the dual feeling I am talking about. But then again, my focus is intact. ‘Mania has been my playing field for three years now, and being a part of four main events, I consider myself extremely fortunate. If this journey were to end tomorrow, I can confidently say that I have had an unbelievably fortuitous career, all thanks to people who surround me.”

WrestleMania 41 is scheduled as a two-day event commencing on Saturday, April 19, and concluding on Sunday, April 20, at the Allegiant Stadium, situated in Paradise, Nevada.
