Cody Rhodes has made a considerable contribution to WWE following his comeback at WrestleMania 38, assisting in the enhancement of the company’s performance over the last two years. Known for his popularity in merchandise sales, Rhodes also played a part in several record-breaking WWE box office events.
Prior to his WWE association, Rhodes had an executive role at AEW. As the Executive Vice President, he simultaneously handled both talent and executive management.
Recently interviewed by “The Pivot”, Rhodes shed light on the valuable experience he gained as EVP at AEW and how it has shaped his current journey at WWE.
Rhodes said, “The primary lesson I learned is the constant delusion we as talent face. The difference between perceived success through inflated social numbers and real-world measurements like ticket and merchandise sales, is stark. Furthermore, I learnt the importance of detachment, especially when it comes to money. Most of us, including myself, are delusional about our financial worth. Wrestlers often consider themselves as artists, and thus, struggle to fully comprehend the business aspect. I realized through experience that one needs a professional to break down these complexities. Also, asking about each other’s pay is a big no-no, always.”
Rhodes revealed the frank critique he has received from John Cena, a 16-time World Champion, on his merchandise sales.
“When I receive my merchandise sale report, I forward it to Cena. Not to boast about it but to get honest feedback. And Cena never fails to keep it real. He pushes me to evaluate my performance on the shows I don’t feature in.”
Rhodes made his move from AEW to WWE in 2022 and is the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
