As a producer for Dusty Rhodes’ A&E Biography: WWE Legends, airing this Sunday, Cody Rhodes played an instrumental role in ensuring his father, Dusty Rhodes, was properly honored in the documentary. A legendary figure in wrestling, Dusty Rhodes’ life and career were brought to light with the help of his son’s efforts and contributions to WWE.

In a recent chat with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Rhodes expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on the documentary and his pride in being able to contribute to the way in which his father’s legacy was presented to a new generation of fans. He said,

“WWE and A&E memorializing my father in this documentary has been a blessed experience. Helping catalog, correct and bring light to Dusty’s life was a grand responsibility and one of the reasons I returned to WWE. Seeing the facts that support the legend, make this a beautiful watch for old fans and new fans alike.”

The American Nightmare also revealed that the best part about serving as a producer for the documentary was coming across new footage of his dad while working on it. He added,

“The best part of producing this doc was not the countless rewatches of old promos and matches but being able to watch for the first time ever an unseen interview only weeks before he passed. That interview serves as a spine for this documentary and in his own words, Dusty answers the question, ‘What was the most important thing to you?’ [Director] Rob Liano and his team did a wonderful job.”

Cody’s appearance on the documentary was complemented by footage and insights from his brother, Dustin Rhodes, who is also a star in AEW, as well as his father’s wrestling academy. Dusty’s influence on the current wrestling landscape is also evident in the success of his former students, including Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch, and more, who all benefitted immensely from his coaching during his time at NXT.

The documentary will premiere at 8:00 PM EST on Sunday.
