Cody Rhodes On The Need For Him To Win The AEW TNT Title

Back in November, Cody Rhodes made a decree that if he didn’t beat Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship, he would never challenge for that specific Championship again. After losing to Jericho at Full Gear, it seemed like, short of a retcon booking situation, all hope was lost for Cody to be a singles champion in his own league.
With the creation of the AEW TNT Championship, Cody Rhodes was given a second chance at championship glory. Now, he is only two wins away from becoming the inaugural TNT Champion.
While engaged in an AMA with Bleacher Report, Cody spoke about the importance to his own career to be able to capture this championship, saying that nobody comes to see a baseball game where a batter is batting .500.
“You don’t want to use the word ‘need’ because you put a lot of pressure on yourself, but I can’t justify my role or my place as a wrestler in this world without it,” Cody said. “he reason I say that is, we’ve had four major PPVs and I really wish it was 4-0 but it’s been 2-2 so I need to get over that hump of .500. Nobody’s coming to see you bat .500. You have to win the big ones. I’m honored to be at the tournament, that TNT thought of it, but need is the space I’m in right now.”
On the possibility of any more championships being added in AEW, Cody clarified that that is on a need-to-know basis.
“Of course, but that’s level 40 clearance. But of course, we plan on being around for many years around, want to continue to diversify the brand,” he said.
Cody recently filed the trademark for “Cody Rhodes,” due to the WWE trademark expiring. Learn more here.
