At the recent WWE SmackDown TV recordings held in New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden, Cody Rhodes made an emotional tribute to his late father, Dusty Rhodes who is a revered member of the WWE Hall of Fame.
In the latest episode of the “Pivot” podcast, Cody, the reigning WWE Undisputed Champion, opened up about the heartfelt tribute and how he finally accomplished a dream he held since his childhood days at Madison Square Garden.
Here are a few remarkable moments from the podcast:
Speaking about how he accomplished his childhood dream at Madison Square Garden, Cody explained: “To be honest, when I was eight years old, my aspiration was to do exactly what I did last night. My deep wish was that my father had been alive to witness it. I frequently get emotional when I’m speaking on the mic, but a significant portion of wrestling fans do not tune in for that.”
Talking about the appreciation he received from his audience in Madison Square Garden, Cody stated: “This person constantly weeping up on the stage isn’t really what they’re into, but that night was an exception and I was delighted that we did it for the MSG crowd. My dad had a great affection for the Garden and the Garden was equally gracious to Dusty without any obligation.”
