In a recent interview with Sam Roberts on the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast, Cody Rhodes was asked about his infamous “glock” promo segment with Arn Anderson in All Elite Wrestling. Now a part of AEW folklore, the segment aired on the September 29th, 2021, episode of AEW Dynamite.

The relationship between Cody and Arn traces back to the days when Anderson worked closely with Cody’s legendary father, Dusty Rhodes, during the feuds between Dusty and The Four Horsemen in the 1980s.

In the promo, Anderson criticized Cody for his perceived lack of focus and determination in his feud with Malakai Black, before illustrating that the difference between himself and Cody was that if a goon would attempt to jack Cody’s car, all he would do is ask the thug to not hurt him. Meanwhile, Good ol’ Arn would take out his glock and spill the man’s brains on the concrete.

Nevertheless, despite the controversy surrounding the promo, Rhodes acknowledged the creative freedom given to Anderson, showcasing the trust AEW management had in Arn’s abilities to deliver impactful promos. Admitting that he did not know what exactly Anderson was going to say out in the ring that night despite being top level management in AEW at the time, Rhodes said,

“I didn’t know, and one of the best things about it, Tony Khan can tell you his version of this, it’s the same version. Arn said, ‘you want me to tell you what I’m going to say?’ I told him, ‘No, all good, just remember the thing at the end.’”

Now back in WWE following a six year “excursion,” Cody Rhodes, perhaps the biggest babyface in professional wrestling, also expressed his openness to collaborate with his former coach and mentor in WWE, should he also choose to return to the company.
