Cody Rhodes Calls Himself A ‘Pyro Hog,’ Congratulates Alex Ovechkin On Historic NHL Feat

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently appeared on the “Pardon My Take” podcast where he discussed his fondness for pyro in professional wrestling.

Here are some highlights from his podcast conversation:

The pyro used during Cody Rhodes’ entrance: “The usage of pyro for my entrance has often invited some complaints from my fellow wrestlers. But, it’s simply because I love it. Yes, there’s a third pyro that might be slightly over-the-top and happens when I climb the buckle during my entrance music. Pyro isn’t easy to come by but I’m known for it. Also, I should add, it’s Triple H who picks out the pyro as he runs the show. I’m his guy in the ring and on the stage.”

About those wrestlers who don’t utilize pyro: “Kevin Owens, for example, has been quite vocal about his lack of pyro. I personally believe we could perhaps allocate some pyro for him. The legendary Steve Austin didn’t need pyro and some wrestlers are so impactful and in-your-face, they truly don’t need it. But personally, I love a grand entrance and the idea of lighting up the sky. It’s a thrilling moment.”

Addressing someone’s complaint about pyro’s cost: “I recall someone commenting on the cost of pyro as I made my entrance saying, ‘There goes your Christmas bonus guys.’ Just to clarify, we don’t receive Christmas bonuses. This isn’t how the pay structure works here. The purchase of pyro doesn’t involve taking money from the talent’s income.”

Also, in a recent ceremony, NHL star Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals scored a record-setting 895th goal on April 6. A congratulatory video featuring various celebrities, including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Steve Carell, and Simone Biles, was shown. Rhodes congratulated Ovechkin with these choice words, “To be the man, you have to beat the man. You sir, are now the man.”

This remarkable accomplishment crowns Ovechkin as the All-Time Goals Leader in the NHL, outscoring hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.
