Notably emerging as a cornerstone of All Elite Wrestling, Darby Allin has proven his worth, and Cody Rhodes suggests Allin could elevate to represent the company.
Since coming onboard in 2019, Allin has been amongst the most featured talents in the AEW roster and has earned the title of former TNT and World Tag Team Champion.
Recently, Rhodes endorsed Allin as the representative face of AEW on the “YoJoshMartinez” podcast. However, he also expressed concerns about Allin’s propensity to take risks, stating,
“Positively, the answer is a definite ‘yes.’ But, don’t be misled by Darby, he has always been self-assured and steadfast in his confidence. Darby exudes an irrefutable, almost excessive confidence. Indisputably, he could potentially be that person, but there are more contenders for that spot than we acknowledge. In any organization, the common perception is that it’s all about the ‘politics’ or ‘connections.’ While there’s an element of truth to that, the reality is far more egalitarian than one might believe.”
“He definitely shouldn’t harbour any doubt about his eligibility, but his penchant for extreme feats such as scaling cliffs and surviving collisions–that is unreasonable. To represent a company, one must be dependable; you cannot wrestle if you’re incapacitated. So, such behavior is ill-advised, albeit I say this out of concern.”
Rhodes used John Cena’s career as a blueprint for maintaining a top spot while simultaneously demonstrating longevity surpassing that of other top performers.
In recent news, Allin forfeited his AEW World Title opportunity to Jon Moxley. He has offered an open contest for AEW WrestleDream, scheduled for October 12.
