On the latest episode of “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, Cody Rhodes, the reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, brought up a past incident at an ‘Over The Top Wrestling’ event in Ireland. Rhodes confessed that he didn’t heed the referee’s call to wrap up his match, which resulted in the scheduled title match between JD McDonagh and Mark Haskins being reduced.

A few snippets from the podcast include:

When asked about his experience competing at an Over The Top Wrestling show in Ireland, Rhodes responded: “I wasn’t always aware of what the local independent was doing during my Indie run…. OTT in Ireland is one of the best ones happening, and I was promoted for an event. I have to admit, I wasn’t very tuned in to what was happening in the scene.”

Regarding his match at the event and ignoring the referee’s call to finish it on time, Rhodes revealed: “I was in a triple threat match and I spent a good amount of time messing around with the crowd, feeling no pressure. Unbeknownst to me, we were actually running out of time. The referee signaled me to finish the match. I felt flustered and told him we’d end when it feels right. We continued for about 10 to 12 minutes more.”

Rhodes also shared how his extended match adversely affected JD McDonagh’s main event against Mark Haskins: “After my match, I carried on spending time with the crowd and having a great time… It wasn’t until weeks later that I found out JD McDonagh’s critical OTT Championship match had to be cut short because of me. It turns out, the public transport would leave at 10:30 and most of the audience had to leave, missing his big moment.”

Feeling remorse over his actions, Rhodes then admitted: “I still feel guilty about it and feel I owe JD.”
