According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, CM Punk had attempted to join WWE twice before making his return at Survivor Series.

He had been interested in returning for some time, even before his departure from AEW after an altercation with Jack Perry.

“From the WWE side, they knew Punk would come since there were the two prior attempts Punk’s side made to come in, once before he signed with AEW and a second time last year when WWE couldn’t have gotten him anyway because his AEW contract was still in effect.

Even though Punk’s first AEW promo indicated strong negativity toward his WWE tenure, it was clear despite all the water under the bridge from his side with the nature of his quitting and the subsequent lawsuit, that in the end, the opportunity for huge money and fame overrode the past and time heals all wounds,” Meltzer wrote.

CM Punk, one of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling, recently made his highly anticipated return to WWE at Survivor Series. However, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this was not the first time Punk had attempted to rejoin the company.

Meltzer revealed that Punk had expressed interest in returning to WWE on two previous occasions. The first attempt was made before he signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and the second attempt was made last year when WWE was unable to secure his services due to his ongoing contract with AEW.

Despite Punk’s initial negative sentiments towards WWE in his first AEW promo, it seems that the allure of significant financial gain and fame ultimately overcame any past grievances. Meltzer suggests that “the opportunity for huge money and fame overrode the past, and time heals all wounds.”

Punk’s return to WWE has been met with immense excitement from fans around the world. His previous run with the company, which lasted from 2005 to 2014, saw him become a fan favorite and a major draw for WWE. His departure from the company was marred by controversy and a subsequent lawsuit, making his return even more surprising.

With Punk’s return, WWE has added another major star to its roster, further bolstering its already impressive lineup of talent. The anticipation for Punk’s in-ring return is at an all-time high, as fans eagerly await his first match back in a WWE ring.
