For quite some time, the pro-wrestling world has been buzzing with the question of whether AJ Lee, also known as April Mendez, would ever make a comeback to WWE.
Lee started her journey with WWE back in 2009, initially with Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and then transitioning to NXT, before making her big leap to the main roster in 2011. During her stint there, she accomplished numerous feats such as winning the Divas Championship thrice and setting a record with a remarkable 406-day title reign.
However, after leaving WWE in 2015 due to health-related concerns, Lee shifted her focus towards different pursuits including the development of comic books and the publication of her biography in 2017. Lee also got involved with the revival of WOW (Women Of Wrestling) promotion.
In a fresh interaction with “Ringside Collectibles” during the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Lee’s husband, CM Punk, provided some insight into the possibility of her WWE return.
Addressing the speculation, Punk stated, “I’m the wrong guy to ask those questions about. I know there’s a lot out there of that, but I certainly am not pushing her to do anything. I think she knows that there’s options. I think she sees how happy I am and how things are different. But if the right situation presented itself, it would have to be a discussion between her and certain people. I don’t necessarily want to be in the middle of that just because it could get kind of weird. Selfishly, yes, I would love to make out with my wife on television again.”
In the upcoming WWE SummerSlam 2024, Punk is set to square off with Drew McIntyre.
