CM Punk is this week’s guest on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, and they spoke about Punk’s departure from WWE and what he’s been up to since then. Noting that she called him to join WWE Backstage, Punk says he misses the friendships that came with being on the road and the comraderie that came with it.
“What do I miss? To a point I’ll speak on, when you reached out to me and you were like, ‘Hey… I heard FOX might want you to do this thing and it would be with me…’ and I hadn’t spoken to you in how long?” Punk said. “People in the bubble don’t speak to people outside of the bubble, it’s just the way it is. There’s going to be exceptions to that rule but more than likely, people in the bubble lose contact with people outside of the bubble and that’s just life. Everyone there is on the road for so long that it’s hard to remain in contact with people outside of the bubble, but you reached out to me and I was like, ‘There’s no way FOX wants me to do this. There’s no way it would get approved.’ So, that’s one of the things I miss,” Punk said, “people like yourself. You’re a peach, I’m not going to sit here and put you over, you know how cool you are. So obviously, there’s people that I miss, and I miss seeing friendly faces. Although they were few and far between when you were there, you were one of them. You got me to come back to this shitshow.”
Renee went on to talk about pulling off Punk’s role on WWE Backstage, noting that him being part of the show was great and it was unfortunate that the show came to a “screeching halt” by being canceled.
“If there’s anything that I’d say I miss, it’s probably that. I don’t think too much about the crowd and the adrenaline you would get from being in front of a live audience and performing. That’s all gone right now anyway.”
Renee joked about Punk’s name being chanted at live events prior to the pandemic, and he replied by saying WWE should pump ‘CM Punk’ chants into the ThunderDome to make it more authentic.
