In a recent Q&A segment with The Daily Mail, CM Punk was questioned about a few comments made by current TNA Tag Team Champion, Jeff Hardy. Hardy’s clear intent to rejoin WWE and “retire CM Punk” didn’t go unnoticed.
CM Punk also shared his thoughts on the unfolding storyline between The Rock and Cody Rhodes, considering how it may impact his wrestling journey leading up to WrestleMania 41. Here are some noteworthy takeaways from the interview:
On Jeff Hardy’s retirement claim: “He said he wishes to retire me? It would be nice to fly, but I don’t see that happening soon. I think a few bridges need to be mended. It’s not certain how long I’ll be around in this ring. I’m all for granting second, third, even sixth chances.”
Discussing supporting others in overcoming their inner demons: “There are instances I’d rather not delve into, but I always cheer for people to free themselves from the demons that haunt them. If Jeff is planning a comeback, splendid, we’ll see how things pan out.”
Commenting on the anticipated impact of The Rock’s storyline with Cody Rhodes: “I think it will ripple down, influencing everyone. It’s a huge setup, hosting numerous elements. I now perceive it differently than I did a decade back, when I was working with The Rock. Objecting to guys not being present now seems pointless given the limited schedules, compared to ten years ago. John Cena’s been busy, he has that liberty. His retirement announcement is bound to attract crowds in international markets.”
Regarding John Cena’s weekly TV appearances: “John Cena doesn’t necessarily need to appear on TV every week. He’s busy with his movie projects, that’s understandable. But let’s not forget the locker room full of pro wrestlers who might feel resentful.”
On The Final Boss: “The Rock’s crowd-pulling ability is undeniable. Revealing his Final Boss persona can make him even more interesting. His sporadic appearances add to the anticipation, and that’s appealing in its own way.”
On his aspiration to headline WrestleMania: “One day, I’ll be the main event at WrestleMania.”
Talking about how aspirations evolve: “The goals I had ten years ago might be clung onto by fans more than by me. In 2025, I consider fewer things important. Main eventing WrestleMania has always been my goal, but desires change. That doesn’t mean I’ve lost my motivation. If someone else gets to main event, I’m fine with it. All I’ll say is that they won’t be able to top my performance.”
