In “No Contest Wrestling,” a recent interview, CM Punk shared about his longstanding alliance with Living Colour, the group behind the song, “Cult of Personality.” The song has been his signature wrestling entrance theme for more than ten years.

Punk revealed that he heard from the band when WWE showed interest in acquiring the song’s license again.

In the highlights taken from the interview, Punk shares details:

When asked about Living Colour informing him that WWE wants to get in touch with them for the “Cult of Personality” license, Punk says, “I share a close bond with the band. They reached out to me, saying, ‘Hey, WWE is attempting to license the song once more. If it’s not for you, it’s a definite no.’ I opted not to say anything. I kind of hinted that it was for me without outrightly mentioning. ‘Perhaps you should…’ Corey (Glover) asked, ‘Is it you or not you?’ So I replied, ‘Corey just….’”

Regarding the group’s decision to re-release the song, he confirmed, “Yes. That’s because we compensate the band. We are not giving money to the record label. They revitalized and updated the song. I feel much better saying, ‘Here you go.’”

In an unrelated note, former WWE Superstar Maven, in his most recent YouTube video, recalls the match that left him with a permanent back injury.

Maven’s lifelong back injury originated from his match against Goldust at WrestleMania 18.

Highlights from the video show:

Maven speaking about his back injury at WrestleMania 18 says, “There was a spot early in the match where I was supposed to be tossed into the barricade. I didn’t anticipate my body folding upon hitting the barricade, becoming the source of what would be a permanent back injury. Today, I live with three herniated discs and I can’t help but think it all began that one night in Toronto.”

Regarding the moment of impact on the barricade, he elaborates, “The moment my body crashed into that barricade, I could tell it bent in an unnatural way. It wasn’t Goldust’s fault in any way. In fact, Dustin took the utmost precautions with me that night and did all he could to protect me, but this is the price we pay in this line of work.”
