In a recent podcast, ex-wrestler CM Punk expressed his belief that his wife, AJ Lee’s potential comeback to WWE could surpass his own previous return in terms of hype and anticipation.
Seconds after WrestleMania, AJ Lee retired from wrestling in 2015. Her retirement has been a topic of discussion since then, with fans eagerly waiting for her return to the ring.
During his chat on the latest episode of the podcast “Cheap Heat With Peter Rosenberg”, Punk answered queries on the likelihood of Lee making a comeback to WWE.
Here are some notable moments from the podcast:
When asked about rumors on AJ Lee’s WWE return: “As far as I can tell, she certainly has an edge over me. The intriguing part about wrestling fans is their penchant for speculation, even when there might not be concrete evidence. They constantly question who will headline major events like WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble, or who might make a surprising comeback. Last year, I made my return. However, I believe that if she were to return, it would be an even bigger event.”
Concerning whether Lee’s desire to return has intensified now that he’s back in WWE: “Indeed, I would assume it has. Her busy schedule is an obstacle, though. I’m not avoiding discussing it, but I’m trying to manage everyone’s expectations. If she is able to finish her current projects, and has the time and inclination to make a comeback, she will make it known. Both of us share similarities in that we can adapt to any time period in the wrestling industry. I am confident she would excel if she returned to WWE. She was a force to reckon with at a time when women weren’t in the limelight. Just last week, we kicked and closed every show with a women’s match. It is undeniable that she would be a perfect fit in the current setup.”
