At a recent WWE Money in the Bank press conference following the 2024 season, CM Punk lent his own thoughts to the well-discussed rivalry he shares with fellow wrestling icon, John Cena. Speaking candidly to eager press members, Punk compared his relationship with Cena to that of two of the most famous super heroes – Batman and Superman.
Punk, known as the Voice of the Voiceless, shed light on his dynamic with Cena, following the latter’s decision to retire. In his words, he described their shared history in the wrestling ring as being similar to the distinctive dynamic between Batman and Superman.
When speaking about John Cena, Punk stated, “I always perceived our relationship similar to that of Superman and Batman. Superman is fantastic, appealing … if that’s your cup of tea. But then there’s Batman – who doesn’t like Batman? That’s what I’m implying, when one mentions John, my name inevitably comes up; and certainly, when one talks about me, John’s name naturally follows.”
Reflecting on his thrilling match with Cena at Money in the Bank in 2011, Punk muses, “If you consider that match as the pinnacle of my career, I would feel privileged. Luckily, my career has given me moments where I can maybe argue that, and it’s possible many others could argue that too”, shared Punk. “I’m forever going to be associated with John Cena, and if that match is seen as the greatest moment of my career, I take pride in it.”
