Christian Says He Found Out About His Royal Rumble Return Two Days Before The Show

Christian’s return at WWE Royal Rumble evidently came together at the last minute.
During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump “Captain Charisma” revealed that his participation in the battle royal wasn’t confirmed until two days before the show.
“I found out at 7:30 at Friday night,” said Christian. “Yeah, so it was kind of a whirlwind from there. In hindsight, it was like man, I would have liked to have a little more time, being able to get in the ring and things like that. But then it also gave me…I was nervous when I got out the call. I was like, oh man, where’s my gear?
“There was no time to think, I had so much to do to prepare on Saturday, and then [I] went to the arena on Sunday.”

This last-minute development would be enough to make anyone nervous, but Christian explained that he was quite calm ahead of his return to the ring.
“There was no nerves,” said Christian. “I was like, this is what I was born to do. There’s nothing to be nervous about.”
Christian also looked back on the process of returning to the ring. He admitted that he was enjoying retirement life with a diet that allowed him to eat a half-box of Cheez-Its in one sitting. But last summer, he focused on getting back into shape so he could prepare for a potential match.
“I kind of looked at where I was in my life and everything at that, and I was like, ‘Am I making healthy choices?’, as far as diet goes and things like that,” said Christian. “I wasn’t in the best shape that I’d ever been in, you know, living that retired life.
“I started thinking maybe I should start making some physical changes and get back into shape and let me see if this can actually happen…. The way that my career ended before never sat well with me as it was, and I was like, I need to get back in there. I need to finish this on my terms and do it my way.”
