It’s a new day, and that means TNA can finally rest in peace.
Christian Cage won the IMPACT World Championship on the debut episode of AEW Rampage, and he is already putting the past behind him.
During the August 16 tapings for IMPACT Wrestling, Cage “retired” the TNA Championship, which he won alongside the IMPACT World Championship on Friday night. He handed the title to David Penzer, who to the back with the title.
The TNA World Championship was officially reinstated this past Feburary after Moose had been unofficially carrying the title since April 2020. He lost the title in a unification match to Rich Swann at the Sacrifice event on March 13. This championship doesn’t technically count the lineage of the actual TNA World Heavyweight Championship, whch is now the IMPACT World Championship. Still, Cage’s decision to retire it is a symbolic move, as it’s clear that IMPACT Wrestling is moving forward with its own identity.
