Fans of the turtleneck fashion trend can credit AEW wrestler Christian Cage for kickstarting its modern revival. The wrestling star has been frequently spotted sporting the distinctive top, bringing it back into popularity.
Having taken a villainous turn around June 2022, Cage has consistently showcased the turtleneck at grand AEW events. He has even stepped into the ring, wrestling in a sleeveless version of the trendsetting attire.
Cage took the opportunity during a recent airing of the “Insight” podcast to flaunt how skillfully he carries-off wearing the turtleneck. His statement broadcasted his influence over the fashion trending not only within the wrestling Friday, but extending to embrace wider pop culture trends.
In his own words, Cage declared, “I’ve managed to bring the turtleneck back into fashion. And nobody wears it the way that I wear it obviously. But you can see my influence. You’re starting to see it sprinkled out throughout not just wrestling but in pop culture. People starting to pull out the turtleneck. [I am] an icon in many ways.”
Despite his fashion feats, however, Cage recently faced a setback at the AEW World Championship. Competing in the AEW Double or Nothing 2024, the wrestler was unable to dethrone the standing champion, Swerve Strickland.
