While he was a guest in a recent episode of “The Adam Carolla Show,” professional AEW wrestler Chris Jericho shared his current approach to fitness, explaining why he now tends to avoid heavy weight-lifting. His decision stems from the negative impact this type of exercise can have on the joints and ligaments, especially for older individuals.
Below are some key points from the podcast:
Sharing insight into his current fitness protocol, Chris Jericho revealed he concentrates mostly on diet and cardiovascular exercises today. He explained, “I am mainly focused on diet now… I have stopped lifting weights because it is damaging my joints. Cardio-based workouts are something that I thoroughly enjoy. Also, they are beneficial in attaining the right form and definition.”
He further added why heavier weights are not always good, particularly for maturing athletes. He opined, “Over time, when the joints and ligaments are constantly strained, it becomes more harmful than beneficial.”
Discussing the innate risks involved with wrestling, he stated, “[Wrestling is] still a contact sport. So, regardless of how cautious you are, you still need to be strong and fully aware of your body. The ultimate goal is to stay in prime shape as best as you can.”
