We just thought it was a real natural progression to form a team after being such great rivals in the beginning of AEW. I think the first year, we worked quite a few very important matches including the very first pay-per-view main event, the very first Stadium Stampede, so then there is a lot — the Street Fight that we had in Daily’s Place, which was amazing — so Kenny [Omega] and I always had this idea. The name, the Golden Jets, obviously is kind of a takeoff on the Golden Lovers, but also the most famous hockey player in Winnipeg history is Bobby Hull, who’s ‘The Golden Jet,’ and Kenny and I are both from Winnipeg obviously, so we just thought that’s a great name.

In a recent post-show media scrum at AEW Full Gear, Chris Jericho shed light on the origin of the team name ‘Golden Jets’ that he and Kenny Omega came up with. The Golden Jets emerged victorious against The Young Bucks at Full Gear, earning themselves a future Tag Team Title shot.

Jericho explained that after being fierce rivals in the early days of AEW, it felt like a natural progression for him and Omega to form a team. They had already worked together in several significant matches during the first year of AEW, including the very first pay-per-view main event and the Stadium Stampede. One standout match was the Street Fight they had in Daily’s Place, which was highly praised.

The name ‘Golden Jets’ is a play on words, inspired by the famous tag team ‘Golden Lovers’ and Bobby Hull, the most renowned hockey player in Winnipeg history, known as ‘The Golden Jet.’ Both Jericho and Omega hail from Winnipeg, so they thought it would be fitting to incorporate this connection into their team name.
