The acclaimed AEW athlete, Chris Jericho, is recognized for the extensive list of Superstars he’s battled using his signature Walls of Jericho maneuver. Nevertheless, the wrestler initially pondered a different name for his move.
Jericho first introduced himself to the WWE universe (known as WWF back then) in August 1999 by unexpectedly stepping in on The Rock. He achieved the status of a Grand Slam Champion before parting ways with the organization in 2018.
A revealing episode of his podcast “Talk Is Jericho” disclosed both his introduction to WWE and the first thought for the name of his Boston Crab finishing move. He recalled,
“The decisive moment of using the Boston Crab or the Liontamer led to a discrepancy. Ken Shamrock’s Lion’s Den seemed too similar. Hence, we chose the Walls of Jericho. I also had the proposal of Naming it as the Standing Torture Device, abbreviated to STD. It appears fitting for the Attitude Era!
“In addition, I was handed a menu of possible finishers, concocted by the WWE corporate team. Among those was the Rock N Roll Finisher and another intriguing one, Salad Shooter. The latter was a product available on TV sales, which made me wonder. The name might have been influenced by the Sharpshooter move, but what does Jericho have to do with a salad?”
The Walls of Jericho continues to be his go-to finisher in his current stint with AEW. He possesses the honor of being both the pioneer World Champion and the reigning FTW Champion of the promotion.
Jericho is all set to shield his title against HOOK at AEW All In: London 2024 event, scheduled to take place later this month. The anticipated bout will be held at the renowned Wembley Stadium in the heart of London, England.
An exciting visual of Jericho locking his opponent with the Walls of Jericho can be found in the referenced video below, dated back to WWE Payback 2016.
