In a fresh conversation with Irish Wrestling & Entertainment, Cary Silkin, the one-time owner of ROH (Ring of Honor), threw light on the similarity he observes between tuning into WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) or AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and watching a soap opera.
Besides this intriguing comparison, Silkin delved into discussions on the potential sway of ROH in shaping the successful careers of specific WWE and AEW wrestlers. Noteworthy excerpts from this engaging discussion are shared below:
Speaking about his experience with WWE and AEW broadcasts, Silkin commented – “To me, whenever I tune into WWE or AEW or pay a visit – the last one to AEW or TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling), whatever their nomenclature for this month — it strikes me as an episode of ‘All My Children.’
In response to whether wrestlers from WWE and AEW would have seen the same scale of success sans the ROH platform, Silkin stated – “It brings me great joy to see everyone flourishing, thanks to the Ring of Honor platform … Now comes the real query: Would figures like Samoa Joe, or Tyler Black (also known as Seth Rollins), Kevin Steen (or Kevin Owens), Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal and so on, have scaled the same heights without it? Without getting overly self-congratulatory, it’s safe to say the wrestling sphere had a completely different vibe back when we began.”
In the interview, Silkin also gave a detailed account of his stint with ROH, its journey and the envisioned future of the franchise by Tony Khan.
