2016 was the stepping-stone year for Carmella to join the main WWE roster. A turning point in her career came when she had a chance to work closely with Vince McMahon, the man at the helm of WWE. Under McMahon’s tutelage and guidance, she reached major career heights. These included winning the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase and earning the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship title.
In a insightful conversation with Zack Heydorn of Sports Illustrated, Carmella divulged her personal experiences and learnings under McMahon’s mentorship. She enlightened,
“Vince was a pleasure to work with! To reiterate, despite hearsays, my personal experience with him was nothing but constructive. He offered me an open platform for suggestions, doubts, or worries. His ability to be there for the talent was really significant. The way he thinks business is just mind-blowing. I honed my skills under his guidance — particularly when it was about promos. One instance I always go back to is the promo I gave post-winning Money in the Bank. Every minute detail — where to look, what to utter, action to take— was meticulously crafted by him. His clear-cut vision intrigued me. We shared good chemistry on TV and he was really welcoming towards my creative idea pitching. It is a well-know fact that Vince appreciates innovative thinking, and I did not disappoint him. Regardless of whether my ideas were implemented or not, my consistent effort to bring creatively better ideas to the table I think won me his respect. I was not someone who took things for granted. I always sought paths to enhance, to be a part of the process, to lend my inputs. And undoubtedly, Vince acknowledged those efforts.”
The early part of 2025 saw Carmella disassociating from WWE after a decision was made not to renew her contract.
