On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray discussed his take that Cody Rhodes’ persona is truly a villain and drew a parallel between him and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars.
The Rock & Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins is slated to headline the first night of WrestleMania 40 before Reigns defends his title against Rhodes on the second night.
Ray said, “Cody Rhodes is not Luke Skywalker. Cody Rhodes is Anakin Skywalker. Luke Skywalker was a good guy, through and through, from the first time we met him as a whiny b***h on Tattooine, all the way until the end, he becomes one of the most powerful Jedi … Would not turn to the dark side. Anakin was a good guy also but Anakin was tormented, tormented by a lot of things … Cody is torn on the inside, Cody is torn from leading a very difficult life of having to live in the shadow of Dusty … Cody at his core is a heel. His cadence makes him a heel. He speaks like a heel, he’s a heel disguised in babyface clothing. Not last night. All black last night. I know this is a stretch. But when I saw Cody come out in all black last night I was like, ‘Oh my God it’s Anakin.’ There is so much suppressed animosity, hatred, torment that lies in Cody … I’m not a hundred percent positive Cody could get it out himself. That would take an absolute Sith to get it out of him. And there’s only one there, Paul Heyman. Heyman could help Cody find himself. Heyman could get that heel out of Cody.“
In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray shared his perspective on Cody Rhodes’ persona in professional wrestling. Ray drew a parallel between Rhodes and Anakin Skywalker from the iconic “Star Wars” franchise, suggesting that Rhodes is more of a villainous character than a hero.
Ray expressed his belief that Cody Rhodes is not like Luke Skywalker, who was portrayed as a pure-hearted and unwavering hero throughout the “Star Wars” saga. Instead, Ray compared Rhodes to Anakin Skywalker, who was tormented by various internal and external conflicts before ultimately succumbing to the dark side.
According to Ray, Cody Rhodes carries the burden of living in the shadow of his father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes. This constant comparison and pressure have created a sense of internal turmoil within Rhodes, making him torn between his desire to break free from his father’s legacy and his need for validation.
Ray further emphasized that Cody Rhodes exhibits traits of a heel (a wrestling term for a villain). He believes that Rhodes speaks and carries himself like a heel, even though he often portrays a babyface (a wrestling term for a hero). Ray pointed out that Rhodes’ recent appearance in all black attire during a wrestling event reminded him of Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader.
The wrestling veteran speculated that Cody Rhodes may not be able to fully embrace his inner heel without external assistance. Ray suggested that only someone like Paul Heyman, a renowned wrestling manager known for his ability to bring out the darker side of wrestlers, could help Rhodes tap into his potential as a villain.
In conclusion, Bully Ray’s analysis of Cody Rhodes’ persona in professional wrestling draws parallels to the complex character arc of Anakin Skywalker from “Star Wars.” He believes that Rhodes, like Anakin, carries internal conflicts and suppressed emotions that make him more inclined towards being a villainous character. Ray also suggests that with the right guidance, someone like Paul Heyman could help Rhodes fully embrace his heel persona and unlock his true potential in the wrestling world.
