On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray discussed the possible scenarios for Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, including an idea to potentially extend the storyline beyond WrestleMania XL by having Cody’s ally, Seth Rollins, screw him over in the main event.

Rhodes will challenge Reigns for the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 40 (Night Two).

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On Seth Rollins possibly betraying Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania: “I like the idea of Seth screwing Cody over because it extends Cody’s story. If they decided to have Seth Rollins screw over Cody, I wouldn’t have a problem with it because it would make sense. Once the story’s over, the story’s over. Now, we’re relying on Cody to carry the company for however long.” Despite this, Bully noted Rhodes winning at WrestleMania 40 would be great, but that WWE has a chance to extend the story and involve Hulk Hogan.”

On stretching Cody finishing the story further: “Can we stretch the story and in turn get Roman closer to Hogan’s record? Can we get Hogan and Roman in the ring with talking segments at the anniversary of Hulkamania? Can we get the championship on Cody at a later date in a prestigious match at a prestigious arena?”

On having Cody Rhodes finish the story at Madison Square Garden: “I still stand firm on my suggestion and opinion that Cody’s story needs to end where Dusty’s started. Madison Square Garden is the absolute best idea — the best place for this story to end.”

Reigns previously defeated Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 following a crucial assistance from his Bloodline cousin Solo Sikoa.

The Possibilities for Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40

As WrestleMania 40 approaches, fans are eagerly speculating about the potential matchups and storylines that will unfold at the grandest stage of them all. One particular match that has captured the imagination of many is the clash between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Championship. On a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray discussed some intriguing scenarios for this highly anticipated encounter.

One idea that Bully Ray proposed was to extend the storyline beyond WrestleMania 40 by having Cody’s ally, Seth Rollins, betray him in the main event. This twist would add an extra layer of complexity to Cody’s story and provide a new direction for his character. Bully Ray acknowledged that once a story concludes, it can be challenging for a wrestler to maintain momentum. By having Seth Rollins turn on Cody, it would give him a fresh feud and a new purpose in the WWE.

While Bully Ray expressed his support for this idea, he also recognized the significance of Cody Rhodes winning at WrestleMania 40. However, he emphasized that WWE has an opportunity to extend the story and involve wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. This could potentially lead to talking segments between Roman Reigns and Hogan, building up to a future match where Reigns could come closer to surpassing Hogan’s record. It would be a monumental moment for Reigns and a fitting way to honor Hogan’s legacy.

Another suggestion made by Bully Ray was to have Cody Rhodes finish his story at Madison Square Garden, the iconic venue where his father Dusty Rhodes made his mark in professional wrestling. Madison Square Garden holds a special place in wrestling history, and it would be a fitting location for Cody to conclude his journey. The significance of this venue would add an extra layer of emotion and nostalgia to the match, making it a truly memorable moment for both Cody and the fans.

It is worth noting that Roman Reigns has previously defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39, with assistance from his Bloodline cousin Solo Sikoa. This history between the two adds another dimension to their upcoming clash at WrestleMania 40, as Cody seeks redemption and aims to dethrone Reigns as the Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

As fans eagerly await WrestleMania 40, the possibilities for the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes match are endless. Whether it involves Seth Rollins betraying Cody, Roman Reigns inching closer to Hulk Hogan’s record, or Cody Rhodes concluding his story at Madison Square Garden, this matchup promises to be a highlight of the event. Wrestling enthusiasts can only wait and see how this intriguing storyline unfolds on the grandest stage of them all.
