In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray shared his thoughts on the controversial spiked bat scene between Jon Moxley and Cope in a recent AEW Dynamite episode.
Here are some highlights from the discussion on the podcast:
Discussing the risk involved with the spiked bat scene, Bully Ray said: “The spikes could potentially do what? Pierce and possibly target which part of your body? Your spine. Hence, the level of risk involved here is far too high. Everyone is agog because the spikes got lodged in his back… As for this scene, since the commencement of this show, my stance has always been, I don’t care what stunt you pull off… as long as it is logical. Don’t just perform stunts for the sake of it.”
Commenting on the gradual rise in AEW Dynamite’s ratings and audience over the past weeks, he said: “In the last five weeks, Dynamite’s rating has experienced a steady incremental increase, which is a positive sign as compared to their standing five weeks ago. Either they’re winning back their audience or drawing new spectators to their show, which could explain that particular spot. It may not significantly boost viewership, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction, which is what the company requires.”
AEW wrestler Shelton Benjamin, in his recent stint on “The F Y’all Podcast”, lauded MVP for his outstanding non-scripted promos.
Here are some highlights from that discussion:
Acknowledging MVP as one of his favorite promo-cutters in wrestling, he said: “I’m gonna add MVP to the list. If you note on AEW, I don’t make any statements. I am aware of my role — I don’t have a speaking part. He shoulders all the tough parts in there. We handle the physical action, and he does all the mouthing off.”
On his promo skills, he said, “I don’t adhere to scripts. Luckily, during my tenure with WWE, I was recruited primarily due to my promo skills. When I proposed the MVP persona to them, I delivered a DVD that had a one-minute promo to demonstrate my timing, accompanied by a longer four-and-a-half-minute promo to show the depth and entertainment I can bring.”
